Goblins

Citadels that formerly rose from watery gardens sit high and lonely above scorched desert earth.

Though they be short of stature and green of skin, goblins are not to be underestimated. Long ago, goblins were a mighty people whose empire straddled the fertile valley that surrounded the Naugwa River. When the climate suddenly changed and the river dried up, goblins turned on the slaves that had fed them, and consumed most of their minions. With the mighty Naugwa dried to a dusty gulch, the machinations of goblin political intrigue and treachery soon crumbled the Goblin Empire from within. But a millennium of patience and trading has slowly returned power and wealth --- at least to a few goblin sovereigns. Fingers of trade and outposts in foreign lands ensure goblin meddling in the internal affairs of all of their neighbors. As traders, goblins maintain a policy of neutrality, but they despise barbarians because barbarians often raid goblin caravans.
