| Products | 15mm WWII and modern miniatures. Painting service. "One thing to be careful of with Quality Castings is that the line is being re-done. The early vehicle models were rather poorly proportioned, but the new stuff is very good. You have to be careful when you order, to try to get the newer castings. This isn't to say that they would send you an old kit when they have newer ones available, just that it can be hard to tell from their catalog which are the newer castings. For example, they re-did their KV-1 model, but kept the same code number." "Quality Castings have a very interesting history. Many of their vehicles started in World War II as recognition models for the US Army, made under the Comet name. These were individually boxed, and were assembled and finished in military green or German panzer grey. The line was expanded in the Korean and early Cold War eras, and they continued to be available in the 1960's and 70's under the Superior Models name - usually as white metal kits with increased detail. Alnavco carried some of them, and some shops had the full range in a big display. They were accurate regarding top detail, length, and width, but some were not high enough (such as the M-7 SPH). The scale was advertised as 1/108. They were widely collected in the years before microarmor and minitanks were available. They show up from time to time in antique toy stores and auctions - sometimes they are quite inexpensive." |
