ConnoisseurConnoisseur are an older line of figures, and were considered by some to be "inspirational" in their time. The manufacturer tells us: "When painted up, these figures look really good and fit well with the Old Glory line, Elite, and Bicorne." The periods covered by this range are (sp). The Connoisseur line in America comes in bags, though one is still able to purchase the individual figures. "I offer a special to people who buy the bags and still need a few individual figures to fill out a unit. I only charge per figure what they would be in the bag. Example: Individuals normally sell for US$1. In the bag, the figure price is about 85 cents each. A person buys a bag and still needs 6 more figures, they only cost 85 cents each. Simple customer service." Peter Gilder was the original sculptor of Connoisseur Miniatures, and one of the leading miniature sculptors of his generation. He began in England and later moved to America. When he passed away, his wife and son took over. She eventually moved back to England, and his son had other interest, so the business was sold to 19th Century Miniatures, who later sold it to J&T. There are some figures in the Master molds that were never released by Peter Gilder, but were listed in his catalog and are now being produced by J&T Miniatures. "19th Century Miniatures found about 10 Napoleonic Prussians that had not be released and put them into production. We have found more that were listed in the catalog but no production molds existed for them. These figures have been introduced into the line. Plus I am finding some variants in the Master molds, and will include these figures in the bags that they belong in. With this, I am also creating variants to add to the bags of figures." MerrimackThis 15mm ship line was formerly produced by 19th Century Miniatures, then by Merrimack Miniatures (now solely owned by J&T). Joel Gregory (the owner of J&T Miniatures) makes the ship masters and molds, and does the casting. His wife assists with the casting of the ships. These ships come complete with crews.
Starter kits are available for certain periods. The company also publishes From Oars To Cannons, rules for the Galley Wars though the Lepanto Wars. Other ProductsFry Pan and the Blanket miniatures were made by two fellows in a St. Paul suburb (Minnesota). J&T has taken over manufacturing and sales. The company also provides a painting service. "I began as a painting service, and still offer that service to Connoisseur and Merrimack Customers." |
