GUIDELINES FOR WRITTEN SUBMISSIONS

We appreciate your interest in writing source material and adventures for RPP. If you are interested in submitting a manuscript, be aware that any such submission would be unsolicited by RPP and Battlestorm and pure speculation on your part. The editors at RPP will read and consider anything you would care to submit, provided you have signed our Unsolicited Manuscript Agreement. Please do not submit anything other than a query via e-mail. If you send a query you must include a copy of the Unsolicited Idea Agreement below. ALL submissions must adhere to the following.

  1. You must sign the Unsolicited Manuscript, Idea, and Artwork Agreement, below --we will not look at a manuscript without a signed agreement.
  2. Any and all submissions are unsolicited by RPP and are created purely on your own speculation. As such, RPP Inc. is NOT obligated to compensate you in any way for your unsolicited and speculative manuscript.
  3. It can take two to eight months before RPP can review and respond to your submission. Sorry, we're very busy.
  4. Any work accepted is purchased as "work for hire" under the U.S. Copyright Act. This means amongst other things, that RPP owns ALL rights.
  5. The work may be subject to editing and/or significant rewriting at the sole discretion of RPP. The more editing a work requires the less you can expect to be compensated.  If you have not mastered basic grammar and punctuation, please do not submit your idea/query/manuscript as it will not be accepted.
  6. Unsolicited manuscripts should be submitted as "hard copy," and not only on computer disk or em-mail. Self-addressed Stamped Envelopes (SASE) are encouraged in the event that we need to send the submission or a response back to you.
  7. Payment for first time writers is typically a flat fee. A "first time writer" is typically a writer who is doing work for RPP for the first time — regardless of the author's past credentials and work for other companies. Exceptions are an extreme rarity.
  8. The exact amount paid will vary with the size of the work and the amount of rewriting involved. A typical 160 page book (about 650,000 bytes or 80,000 words — roughly a 300 page manuscript) will pay between $800.00 to 2500.00 US dollars. Contributions to a larger work can pay a few to several hundred dollars. A separate, formal author's agreement will be signed if an unsolicited manuscript is accepted on a flat fee basis.
  9. It is suggested that a prospective writer send 10 to 30 pages of a completed manuscript section. From the writer's viewpoint, this writing should be totally finished and of "ready for publication" quality. This will give the submissions editor a clear idea of your writing abilities. Also include an outline of what the rest of your proposed manuscript will contain. This way you don't spend months writing a manuscript that might be rejected or to which we may want to make changes.
  10. Please do not submit similar manuscripts to any other publisher, as this will cause copyright problems. RPP will assume that everything you submit to us is 100% your original work, and derivative of RPP publications. No other person (publisher, cowriters, etc.) should have any claim to the work. If you have contributing writers or idea people (friends, play testers, contributing writers) please identify them all and the nature of their contribution. We prefer to work with one or two freelance writers on a book.
  11. RPP may consider using artwork produced by a friend, but we are not looking for a writer-artist team, and reserve all rights to use whomever we please, in our sole discretion.
  12. Mail/delivery services are not 100% safe or efficient, so do NOT send original artwork or the only copy.
  13. Please indicate your age. We will consider working with minors but special considerations and paperwork are required.

UNSOLICITED MANUSCRIPT, IDEA, AND ARTWORK AGREEMENT

Every week, RPP, Inc. receives a number of unsolicited manuscripts, ideas, and/or artworks. It is RPP's policy not to accept these works unless the person submitting them agrees to the terms stated in this agreement (see below).

By signing this Agreement, you agree that RPP is not in any position of confidential trust with you. You also agree to release and hold harmless RPP, its agents and employees, against any claim of infringement of copyright rights, trademark rights, or other intellectual property rights in any way related to your submission. By way of example, but not limitation, RPP's receipt and review of your materials does not prevent RPP from developing or publishing any similar work. Nor does RPP become an agent of fiduciary of yours relative to these works.

You also agree that you will not submit these works to any other person, nor to allow their publication by any person other than RPP until RPP advises you that your works have been rejected if, indeed, RPP ever does reject your works.

In addition, if RPP ever accepts your works for publication, you will agree to assign any and all copyright, trademark and other intellectual property rights to RPP, in exchange for RPP's standard royalty.

If you wish RPP to consider your submission on the terms stated above, please sign and return a copy of this document.

In any case, we thank you for your interest in RPP, and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
